Meet the Head Coach: Michael O’Brien

Coach O’Brien is a native of Mobile and grew up playing junior and high school tennis locally. He and his doubles partner were the #1 doubles team in the state of Alabama in his last year of junior competition.  Coach O’Brien played at Central Alabama Community College, setting records in both singles and doubles competition.  Upon graduation, he transferred to the University of North Alabama where he competed for one year before returning to complete his collegiate career at the University of South Alabama.  Coach O’Brien helped the Jaguars to a Top 50 ranking nationally, Sunbelt Conference title, and a trip to the NCAA tournament in which they defeated the nationally ranked #20 University of Alabama in the first round.  Coach O’Brien comes to St. Luke’s from McGill-Toolen High School where he helped the girls team reach the 7A State Tournament and finish in 4th place.  He has been a tennis instructor for the last several years and is currently a PTR certified teaching pro with a rating of Professional at the Mobile Tennis Center. Coach O’Brien is a also a member of the Lower School Physical Education Department.
